Improved Platform to Support 10X User Growth

Many women face issues with returning to the workforce after a period of absence because of the birth of a child.
FlexCareers was founded with the intention of becoming a platform that connects working mothers with employers that offer flexible work and we helped them improve the platform to handle more than 190 000 users.

About FlexCareers

Helping people with the hardest jobs in the world

Raising a newborn is considered one of the hardest jobs in the world, but also one of the most fulfilling.
To make a child happy, a parent must first be happy.
It means, a parent needs to have a daytime job with flexible arrangements to have a good work-life balance and properly take care of their child.

More than just a job site

FlexCareers was founded with the intention of helping parents achieve their career goals without sacrificing their lifestyle or commitments.
The great majority of users are female, but there is an increasing trend of men also searching for flexible work arrangements.

How the application works

On the job seeker's side:

The algorithm only sends the most appropriate and relevant jobs that line up with the candidate’s experience, education, location and flexibility requirements.

On the employer’s side:

The algorithm delivers the mirror image of the candidate’s experience and skills, creating an instant short-list of candidates best matched to a role they are looking to fill.
The algorithm has access to millions of CVs from which it is able to analyze career paths and, with the use of machine learning, assists candidates and employers with their needs.

How the collaboration started

When you know, you know

How it all started, well.. Thanks to this article, our CEO Krešimir Bojčić wrote about Ruby on Rails.
The FlexCareers team immediately realized that Krešimir knows what he's talking about and that Kodius could have some of the best Ruby on Rails developers in the world.
And they were right!

6 years, and counting...

We are proud to be working with such an innovative team as FlexCareers for such a long time.

01
Long-distance love is real

FlexCareers is from Sydney, and Kodius is based in Zagreb. Although we are communicating through an extreme 8-hour time difference, everything goes smoothly.
Working together is so easy, and we are able to understand each other perfectly!

02
Challenges

One of the first challenges was a migration from a single server in Singapore to the AWS platform, which helped FlexCareers reduce downtime, infrastructure costs, and scale faster.
Another big project and challenge was launching a large searchable database where employers could look for potential job candidates. This project involved a bunch of external APIs, a Ruby on Rails backend, and a lot of testing.
We also did extensive UI/UX design work, especially in terms of mobile optimization.

03
Flexhub

We also developed FlexHub - the system designed to assist employers in helping their employees to better adapt to working processes and improve their skills.

Work in progress

After 6 years, we are still in charge of the platform's proper operation, modernization of the user interface, database maintenance, and other functions.
